“Let Me Tell You a Story About an Old Friend of Mine”
"Maggie's Song" by Chris Stapleton
We met Maggie on what could have been the worst day of her life. During a death call for the funeral home, her owner had passed away. With no one to care for her, Maggie's future was uncertain, and she was facing euthanasia. But sometimes life gives second chances. We took her home, and what started as an act of compassion quickly became one of the greatest blessings our family would ever know.
Maggie wasn't just a dog we rescued. She became family.
She had an endless love for fetch. No matter how many times the ball was thrown, she was always ready for one more. She played with a joy that reminded everyone around her to enjoy the simple things in life.
She also spent plenty of time keeping Jingles the cat on his toes. Maggie never seemed to understand that Jingles wasn't nearly as interested in her friendship as she was in his. Their daily interactions became part of the rhythm of our home and are memories we will smile about for years to come.
But above all else, Maggie loved her mom.
Anyone who knew Maggie knew where her heart belonged. She followed her mom everywhere she could, always wanting to be near her. The bond they shared was undeniable. It was the kind of loyalty and devotion that only a dog can give, unconditional and unwavering. Being loved by Maggie was a gift, but being her person was something truly special.
Looking back, it's impossible not to see God's hand in Maggie's story. A dog who had every reason to be forgotten instead found a family who loved her completely. And a family who thought they were rescuing a dog discovered that she was rescuing pieces of them right back.
Maggie filled our home with laughter, companionship, and countless memories. She taught us about loyalty, forgiveness, and living each day with excitement. From games of fetch to quiet moments at home, from pestering Jingles to following her mom from room to room, she made every day brighter simply by being there.
Though our hearts are broken in saying goodbye, we are grateful beyond words for the time we had with her. The dog we met on one of the saddest days imaginable gave us years of happiness, comfort, and love.
Maggie was once a dog who needed saving. In the end, she became one of the most treasured parts of our family.
We will miss her deeply. We will love her always. And we will never forget the beautiful story she gave us.
"The day that I met you, I knew we had a chance."
Run free, sweet Maggie.
Stairs were her favorite thing…..
The best video of her!!
Who remembers when she would get tired for 5 seconds and then be ready again?
Playing fetch was her best (and only) skill!!

Maggie brought so much love to our home each and every day. She will be so very missed but I find peace in knowing that all dogs go to heaven.
